BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK — THE 28TH ANNUAL BUS FESTIVAL, hosted by the New York Transit Museum, will take place at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday, Sept. 8. This event is perfect for children who love transportation as well as their bus-enthusiast parents. The Vintage Bus Festival will feature nine buses that offer a glimpse into over a century of commuting history. Among the highlights are the Jackie Gleason Bus, also known as Bus Number 2969. Debuted in 1948, it was one of the first 40-foot transit buses designed specifically for New York City. This bus model featured a double-width front door to expedite passenger loading and unloading. Although it was originally designated as bus 4789, this model was renumbered to match the bus in which Gleason was photographed as the driver Ralph Kramden in the classic television series “The Honeymooners.” Other models on exhibit for the Bus Festival include a 1931 double-decker bus that is the oldest in the Transit Museum’s collection, which operated in Manhattan, Queens, and The Bronx from 1931 to 1953, according to the Transit Museum’s web page on the festival and to the Gowanus Lounge.

Attendees will have the opportunity to board all of these buses and participate in a scavenger hunt. The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. at Emily Warren Roebling Plaza in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
