CITYWIDE — THE NYC SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY, which designs and builds NYC public schools, spent billions of taxpayer dollars over the past year without the required oversight, the New York Post reported Saturday. By law, SCA must  maintain three trustees at all times — but when Lorraine Grillo left on Aug. 31, 2023, the mayor never replaced her. The two remaining trustees have approved contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars, passed a $287.3 million operating budget and adopted a $17 billion four-year capital plan. “This longtime board vacancy reflects…  disrespect for due process in this key function,” David Bloomfield, an education professor at Brooklyn College told the Post.

“Our search is active and ongoing,” a City Hall spokesperson told the Post.
