Police are searching for alleged assaulter who yelled racial slurs, investigating as possible hate crime
FLATBUSH — POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED A MAN in Flatbush verbally and physically earlier this month. The incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 2, at the corner of Ocean and Foster Avenues, when the man yelled a racially-motivated slur, “Learn to speak English. Go to India, monkey face,” and then punched the alleged victim multiple times. He fled southward on Ocean Avenue before officers from the NYPD’s 70th precinct could respond.The perpetrator is described as having a medium complexion with brown hair, brown eyes, a medium build and a tattoo on his right calf. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and brown shorts, with a green backpack and gray shoes.
The attack happened near Our Lady of Refuge Roman Catholic Church at the same intersection, a parish heralded for its outreach to various ethnic groups in Flatbush and Midwood, including a growing Pakistani immigrant community.
