One of Brooklyn’s most transformative environmental organizations hosts annual gala honoring sustainability efforts
North Brooklyn Parks Alliance (NBK Parks) announced its annual Fall Gala at its landmark conservancy site, Under the K Bridge Park, on Thursday, Sept. 26. The event features two honorees, three “Eco Warrior” award recipients and the launch of NBK Parks new campaign, Rewild North Brooklyn.
The parks conservancy is led by Executive Director Katie Denny Horowitz, and the organization has been able to achieve significant conservancy and sustainability efforts with the leadership of David Lombino, Diane Zelvin, Joe Vance and Keith Burger. Lombino is managing director of Two Trees Management, a prominent real estate development company. Zelvin is a business coach, psychotherapist and entrepreneur. Vance owns an architecture and interior design firm specializing in townhouses and brownstones and has previous experience with the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative. Burger is a previous chair of Urban Pathways, and he is a director at Bank of America Merill Lynch.
The honorees are landscape architecture firm Field Operations and Alive Structures. The “Eco Warriors” are Rebecca McMackin, former director of Brooklyn Bridge Park, Gowanus Canal Conservancy and Crest Hardware, which recently closed after being located in Williamsburg for 80 years.
In the past year, the organization has spearheaded groundbreaking environmental efforts and progress in Community District 1, notably along the Williamsburg-Greenpoint waterfront.
