Autumn is around the corner! Get ready for fall celebrations at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery
GREEN-WOOD CEMETERY — GET READY FOR A CREEPY-CRAWLY AUTUMN SEASON BROOKLYNITES! The Green-Wood Cemetery is hosting a plethora of seasonal events for every citizen of the borough. Including, but not limited to:
- “Exit Strategy” unveiling on Aug. 31: The artist in residence at the Green-Wood Cemetery, Adam Tendler, has created an immersive, multi-sensory experience for visitors to enjoy his interpretation of how people relate to their stored memories and physical belongings, as well as how to relieve ourselves of those physical and metaphysical objects. Crafted with the layering of “music, text, visuals and found objects,” Tendler’s “Exit Strategy” is available through Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, or through scheduled appointments, and is free of charge.
- Discover Green-Wood Trolley Tour: A climate-controlled trolley tour of Green-Wood is available on Sept. 7 and Aug. 31 (as well as all consecutive Saturdays until Dec. 14, 2024). Visitors can tour the cemetery’s most notable tenants and learn about the history behind the land so many fellow Brooklynites were laid to rest in. For non-members, the price is $30, and for members, the tour is $25. The tours are from 1-3 p.m. in both August and September. Tickets can be purchased on the Green-Wood Cemetery’s website.
- Angel’s Share: Caroline Shaw’s Partita: Enjoy a profound musical experience in Green-Wood’s catacombs that evokes an emotional connotation from deep within the past. Now in its sixth season, the “Angel’s Share” offers listeners a unique renaissance-and baroque-inspired music collection performed by the Fourth Wall Ensemble and a pre-show spirit tasting. Vogue magazine praised the show, saying, “one of the most riveting and unusual chamber music performances of my lifetime,” according to the Green-Wood website. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased through the cemetery’s website.
The Green-Wood Cemetery, founded in 1838, is a National Historic Landmark known for its beautiful landscapes, notable monuments and the graves of many prominent historical figures.
