Former NYPD officer sentenced to 27 years for murder of presumed former lover
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — THE FORMER POLICE OFFICER WHO SHOT A WOMAN INVOLVED IN A BROOKLYN LOVE TRIANGLE was sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 28, to 27 years in prison, Attorney General Letitia James announced. Former NYPD officer Yvonne Wu, 34, of Staten Island was off duty when, in October 2021, she went to the Brooklyn home of Jamie Liang and attempted murder of Jenny Li and used her department-issued service weapon to kill Ms. Liang. She also shot and wounded Ms. Li. Wu pleaded guilty before Acting Kings County Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun in June 2024 to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree and one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree. As part of the plea, Wu has been sentenced to 22 years on the Manslaughter charge and five years on the Attempted Murder charge, to run consecutively, for a total of 27 years in prison, as well as five years of post-release supervision. The plea deal also includes a waiver of Wu’s right to appeal and an order of protection for Ms. Li.
Shortly after the guilty plea in June, 1010 WINS News reported that deceased Ms. Liang was identified as a former intimate partner of Ms. Wu. At the time the plea was entered on June 24, the sentencing date was scheduled for Aug. 28; it took place as planned.
