Affordable housing lottery open at Gowanus Canal Towers
GOWANUS — AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING LOTTERY OPENED for the new Gowanus Canal towers at 420 Carroll Street, according to Brownstoner. The development, part of the Gowanus rezoning initiative, offers 89 rent-stabilized, income-restricted apartments, including studios starting at $784 per month. The project, expected to be LEED-certified, features modern amenities like smart controls, WiFi-enabled appliances, a gym, a cinema and a rooftop terrace. Market-rate rentals have been available since last July, and studio prices start at $3,436 per month. Applications are open until Oct. 28 on NYC Housing Connect. No Certificate of Occupancy has been issued, according to both the NYC Department of Buildings and Brownstoner. The DOB website indicates that the new Gowanus Canal Towers is within a Special Flood Hazard Check zone, as well as a Tidal Wetlands Map Check.
Prior to the new development, the site at 420 Carroll Street housed a three-story commercial building used by sewer and plumbing businesses Alex Figliolia Water and Sewer and Liberty Water & Sewer, plus parking.
