BENSONHURST — “A REMARKABLE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS” devoted a portion of their Sunday on Aug. 25 for a community cleanup that City Councilmember Susan Zhuang sponsored in a joint effort with residents and service organizations. The cleanup is the latest of several that she and Assemblymember William Colton have organized within their districts that encompass the neighborhoods of Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights and Gravesend. Volunteers at this cleanup focused on the areas between Fort Hamilton Parkway and 11th Avenue, and between 61st and 62nd Streets, in the vicinity of the Fort Hamilton Pkwy subway station. They worked on the appearance and cleanliness of our public spaces, from parks and sidewalks to residential streets, diligently gathering litter and debris. The joint effort brought together ACE, Riverkeeper Sweep and various community organizations.

One of the organizations, The Association of Community Employment Programs (ACE) works with New Yorkers with histories of homelessness, incarceration, and addiction, providing them with job training, work experience and a lifetime support network, according to its website.
