MANHATTAN AND NATIONWIDE — A MANHATTAN-BASED MORTGAGE MODIFICATION COMPANY is at the center of consumer warnings from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB has received complaints that American Home Solutions, based in Midtown-Manhattan, is allegedly accepting money from already financially-distressed consumers but failing to apply mortgage payments for their residential home loans. These consumers say that because they were facing financial difficulty, they reportedly sought assistance from AHS about loan modifications. Many consumers claim they were told by AHS representatives to send payments to begin the loan modification process, but later, a number of consumers allegedly found that the money submitted — anywhere from $1,000 to $12,000 — had not been applied to their mortgages. The impacted consumers have further claimed that the delay in the payments apparently worsened some of their financial hardships. They are blaming AHS’ alleged failure to act on their behalf with having liens or foreclosure proceedings placed on their homes. Consumers also say that they have been unsuccessful in reaching AHS representatives to assist them in addressing their issues, specifically getting the money back from the payments that were made to AHS but reportedly not applied to the mortgage loans.

American Home Solutions currently has an F rating with BBB, with seven consumer complaints filed in the last 12 months, of which six have been unanswered.
