Rep. Malliotakis secures renovation funding for non-profit serving the disabled
BAY RIDGE — THE GUILD FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN, a non-profit organization serving the developmentally disabled, will receive $2 million in federal funding, thanks to Congressmember Nicole Malliotakis (R-11). During a ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 20, hosted at the GEC on 3rd Ave. and 68th St., Malliotakis will present the check, which will be used to make critical ADA renovations and upgrades to their facilities in Bay Ridge.
The Guild for Exceptional Church was founded in 1958 when parents and friends of people with developmental disabilities banded together to volunteer their time and talents, according to the organization’s website. GEC grew from this dedicated group to become a leading-edge advocacy agency, developed community living options, and opened the very first group home here in 1970.
