Applications open for Off-Hour Delivery Incentive Program
CITYWIDE — CITY DEPARTMENT OF Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez on Monday announced that applications are open for the Off-Hour Delivery Incentive Program, which offers businesses a one-time reimbursement for the expense of shifting delivery schedules to between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Eligible expenses include security systems, low-noise equipment upgrades like pallet jacks and track retrofits, and the use of greener delivery methods like cargo bikes. Funded with $6 million from the federal DOT, the program is designed to cut traffic and congestion during peak hours, speeding up delivery schedules and cutting costs for shippers, as well as improving air quality. The agency has so far enrolled 27 businesses with nearly 1,120 locations and aims to reach 5,000 locations by 2040, shifting an estimated 62,000 trucks away from peak hours.
The program is aimed at small businesses but will be open to businesses of all sizes who make or receive deliveries. Applicants must provide their anticipated expenses for reimbursement and commit to off-hour deliveries for a minimum of one year. The application is open until Sept. 30. More information and the application form can be found online on the DOT’s OHD website.
