CITYWIDE — NYC SCHOOLS ARE searching for a balanced policy on student cell phone usage, Mayor Eric Adams said Friday during an interview with J.R. Giddings on GMT Live’s “The Reset Talk Show.”  Many parents are concerned about not being able to reach their children, “especially if something is happening in the school, around the school,” Giddings told the mayor. But the city is trying to balance student safety against the many distractions caused by the devices, Adams said.

“They’re major distractions to learning. And so as I like to say, we have to find that sweet spot,” he said, adding that the chancellor is working on an official statement. Public schools open Sept. 5.
