Rock climbing festival at BBP next weekend

DUMBO — BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK’S Pier 5 is set to host an end-of-summer rock climbing festival sponsored by The North Face next weekend, featuring elite competition, panel discussions and more, as well as appearances by some of the sport’s biggest stars. Climbers will race on a 55-foot climbing wall, with the East River waiting below to catch those who tumble and a top prize of $4,000 for those who succeed. Alex Honnold, of “Free Solo” fame, will moderate a panel on climbing culture, with trailblazer Chris Sharma also set to make an appearance, while a series of DJs will perform live throughout the weekend.

The North Face Climb Festival will take place on Aug. 23-24 at Pier 5, starting at 10 a.m. on both days. The women’s finals will take place on the 24th at 5 p.m., with the men’s scheduled for 6 p.m.
