Nike Unite store in Brooklyn’s Gateway Center robbed seven times in two months
SPRING CREEK — GROUPS OF ROBBERS have ransacked a Nike Unite store at Gateway Plaza in Spring Creek, Brooklyn, seven times since mid June, and police are asking for the public’s assistance. On June 13, two individuals ripped off $2,800 worth of merchandise before fleeing. On July 4, four robbers made off with items worth $4,600. On July 6, three people ran out with products worth $3,100. On July 13, three individuals stole merchandise valued at $7,200. On July 14, one person made off with $2,200 worth of goods. On July 16, two robbers stole items worth $2,900. On July 20, two robbers stole items worth $3,600. No one was hurt in the grab and go robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), the Crime Stoppers website or on X @NYPDTips.
According to a study by Business Breakdown’s Marcus Lee, Nike’s supply chain nationwide has been under attack from organized retail crime groups targeting its limited edition goods. “These issues occur because Nike lacks security and oversight for its widespread distribution operations since they operate through 57 global distribution centers with 1,032 retail stores,” Lee writes in Medium.
