DOWNTOWN — TWO NEW YORK FARMERS who have sold their produce at Brooklyn Borough Hall’s Greenmarket for 40 years were honored Saturday by Councilmember Lincoln Restler (D-33). Chris Emmerich of Emmerich Greenhouses and Fred Wilklow of Wilklow Orchards are founding members of the greenmarket, and familiar faces to several generations of local families. Emmerich has been selling cut flowers and Wilklow has been offering quality produce at the market since 1984.

“Fred mentioned that Wilklow Orchards’ success at the Borough Hall Greenmarket has sustained his sixth generation business,” Restler said in his newsletter, adding, “They have both given so much to our neighborhood over the decades — always taking the time to share their knowledge about the beauty and benefits of flowers and the importance of eating healthy, local food.”
