Stroller Tours: McCartney @ Brooklyn Museum

Photographs, Art, Interactive, Music

Brooklyn Museum, 5th Floor, 200 Eastern Parkway, Prospect Heights

Friday, Aug. 16 @ 10 a.m.

On Friday, Brooklyn Museum is offering an interactive, stroller-friendly tour of Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm, designed especially for children up to 24 months old and their caregivers.

This baby-friendly program includes touchable objects, songs, art exploration and a chance to connect with other adults. Breastfeeding is welcome, and the museum is asking for parents to bring single strollers only. Tickets are $32 per family for non-members and $28.80 for members.

“Video clips and archival materials set the scene for these photos shot by McCartney over three-month spanning late 1963 and early 1964: a key period in The Beatles’ career, as they developed from a phenomenon in Britain into a global success that incited ‘Beatlemania’ wherever they traveled. The candidness of the all-monochrome images, in which fellow band members John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr loom large, evokes the feeling of a family album full of once-in-a-lifetime memories.” — Time Out

“From Dec. 7, 1963, to Feb. 21, 1964, Paul McCartney took 1,000 photographs — 250 of which will be on display at the Brooklyn Museum for a new, free exhibit.” — MSNBC Morning Joe

In collaboration with KEYED UP! and Jazz Generation, Therapy Wine Bar 2.0 is hosting the Organ Monk Jam every other Wednesday night, inviting musicians of all levels to join in and contribute to the local music scene.

Under the leadership of Gregory Lewis, a musician renowned for reinterpreting Thelonious Monk’s works on the Hammond organ, the group Organ Monk has made a name for itself in the jazz and blues scene. Their latest album, “Organ Monk Going Home” (2023), was recognized by The New York City Jazz Record as part of its Best of 2023 selection.

“Lewis’ artistry has been honed and enriched through a lifetime of commitment and performance, leading to a wealth of opportunities and acclaim. Over the course of a long-standing career, the limelight has intensified on his immense talent as the leader of his own all-star Organ Monk trio, quartet and quintet.” —  amNY

Gregory Lewis was raised in New York City in a musical household where he was surrounded by a diverse selection of influences and genres — including funk, soul and jazz. As a young musician himself, his earliest invitations into the world of music performance came, not via jazz, but through the spiritual route — the houses of worship he grew up attending with his family.” — Annette Hinkle, 27east.com
