Rep. Malliotakis urges death penalty for alleged 9/11 masterminds
BROOKLYN/STATEN ISLAND — CONGRESSMEMBER NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS, POLICE, FIREFIGHTERS AND OTHER SAFETY PERSONNEL whose colleagues and family members were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks will urge the Biden-Harris administrative to secure the death penalty for the alleged 9/11 mastermind, during a rally on Monday, Aug. 5. Families of those killed on 9/11 expressed outrage after last week’s plea deal between military officials in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with three alleged operatives in the attacks, giving them life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. Friday evening, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revoked that plea deal; in Brooklyn, Malliotakis organized with several police, detective, paramedic and firefighter benevolent associations to push for the death penalty.
Malliotakis said over the weekend, “While we’re pleased to hear that Secretary Austin has withdrawn this unacceptable plea deal, the fact remains that it has been 23 years since the worst terrorist attack on American soil and the families of 9/11 victims, the first responders still suffering and dying today, and all Americans, deserve justice. That begins with pursuing the death penalty and immediately setting a trial date so these terrorist monsters can be held accountable for their crimes against humanity.”
The group is expected to gather at “Postcards,” The Staten Island Sept. 11th Memorial, North Shore Waterfront Esplanade Park.
