MTA: Joint bridge and tunnel sweeps net 266 vehicles, 55 arrests and 3,000-plus tickets
CITYWIDE — SIX JOINT OPERATIONS held in July by MTA Bridges and Tunnels and the NYPD, along with regional law enforcement partners, have led to the impoundment of hundreds of vehicles and numerous arrests, MTA announced Friday. Law enforcement officers stationed at the city’s bridges and tunnels — including the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel and the Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Kosciuszko and Marine Parkway bridges in Brooklyn — nabbed scofflaws who had amassed $3,215,656 in unpaid tolls, fees, judgments and other fines. The operations resulted in 55 arrests, 3,012 summonses and 266 seized vehicles, and included some vehicle occupants wanted for serious crimes, MTA said.
So far this year, 31 joint enforcement operations resulted in 1,806 vehicles impounded, 395 arrests and 15,019 summonses, MTA said.
