Brooklyn student art show inspired by Basquiat at Barclays Center this Saturday
PROSPECT HEIGHTS — BROOKLYN VISUAL ART STUDENTS from the second to twelfth grades will be displaying 85 artworks inspired by Brooklyn-born artist Jean-Michel Basquiat at Barclays Center, 620 Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn this Saturday, July 27, from 1-3 p.m. This fourth-annual exhibition celebrates a year-long curriculum and is inspired by social justice themes chosen by the student artists themselves. The program was developed in 2021 by the Brooklyn Nets, New York City Public Schools and the Fund for Public Schools. Since launching, the Basquiat curriculum — funded by the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation’s Social Justice Fund — has been taught to 6,000 NYC students.
Attendees will include Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Kim Council and Gregg Bishop, executive director of the Social Justice Fund. There will also be performances by the Brooklyn High School of Arts Choir and the Grand Street Campus Marching Band.
