RED HOOK — THE OWNER OF Amazon’s 312,000 square foot Red Hook distribution center put the property up for sale, reports the Real Deal. Thor Equities, which bought the site for $40 million in 2005, is reportedly seeking an offer of $150 million. Amazon leased the warehouse in 2020 and has been operating out of it since its completion in 2022. The online retailer has 13 years left in that lease — a plus for prospective buyers, according to a promotional memo describing Amazon as an “inevitably sticky tenant.”

Amazon’s reliance on the Red Hook warehouse for its city distribution cut shipping times as online shopping increased in popularity, but has come at a cost for area locals, who have complained that the thousands of delivery trucks and vans operating in the industrially zoned neighborhood result in increased noise and pollution for Red Hook residents.
