CONEY ISLAND — JOEY CHESTNUT, BANNED from the Nathan’s stage in Coney Island after taking an endorsement deal with vegan meat company Impossible Foods, spent the Fourth in Texas this year, reports Yahoo Sports. Chestnut competed in a matchup against a team of four soldiers from Fort Bliss, where he had to outeat all four combined. Chestnut ate 57 hotdogs in just five minutes versus 49 on the soldiers’ team. Impossible, whose products were not eaten during the competition, sponsored the event, donating $1,000 per hotdog eaten to military family assistance charity Operation Homefront for a total of $107,000.

Chestnut plans to face off against longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi, also banned from Nathan’s over a sponsorship dispute, in “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” set to be streamed live on Netflix in September.
