STATEWIDE — GOVERNOR HOCHUL ON Tuesday confirmed that she plans to run for her seat again in 2026 with Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado as her running mate, reports City and State. “2026 may be a long way off, [but] I’m running… I’m preparing for that race,” Hochul stated at an unrelated press conference. The 2022 gubernatorial race was the closest in decades, with Hochul beating Republican challenger Lee Zeldin, who ran on anti-crime messaging, by just 6%. The governor, then incumbent following the resignation of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo over sexual harassment allegations, cruised to victory over primary opponents Jumaane Williams and Tom Suozzi, but this time she could meet stiffer resistance this cycle from progressives infuriated over the controversial canceling of the city’s congestion pricing program, which was intended to be implemented last month.

Delgado replaced Hochul’s original Lieutenant Governor running mate, former Manhattan state Senator Brian Benjamin, after Benjamin resigned following his indictment on federal wire fraud and bribery charges in 2022.
