Drag Story Hour @ Brooklyn Children’s Museum

Storytelling, Kids, Drag

Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave, Crown Heights

Thursday, June 27 @ 3 p.m.

Celebrate the end of LGBTQ+ Pride month at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum with Drag Story Hour! This event offers a storytelling session that honors the diversity of every child and family.

Drag Story Hour NYC fosters an appreciation for gender diversity and various forms of uniqueness, promoting empathy and encouraging children to embrace self-expression in whatever way they feel most comfortable.

“On a recent Saturday, at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central branch, Cholula Lemon joined dozens of kids and their parents for Drag Queen Story Hour — which is exactly what it sounds like. Wearing a rose-colored lace dress and a tie, she read them Todd Parr’s “It’s Okay to Be Different” and other stories of tolerance. Lemon says she isn’t trying to indoctrinate children into drag culture; she’s only demonstrating that “nowhere does it say you can’t play with all the colors in the crayon box.” — Steven Valentino, “The New Yorker Radio Hour

“As the world’s first children’s museum, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum has been a beloved NYC destination since 1899. This Crown Heights institution offers three floors of rotating and permanent interactive exhibits plus hands-on cultural and science programs for little ones, ages 6 months to 10 years.” — Rosalind Muggeridge, Mommy Poppins
