BAY RIDGE — A BAY RIDGE pedestrian killed last week in a collision with a Department of Transportation truck has been identified as former mafioso Antonio Conigliaro, age 86, reports Fox News. Conigliaro was decapitated on Thursday while crossing the street by the work truck, which was turning from 92nd Street onto Dahlgren Place — an intersection that witnesses told News 12 is known for being dangerous — after which the visibly distressed driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Conigliaro, in 2005, was accused of being a loan shark with the Genovese crime family and served a 13-month sentence after pleading guilty to racketeering. Friends of Conigliaro told the New York Post that after serving time, he became a seller of wholesale cakes and Italian ices, earning the nicknames “Tony Cakes” and “Tony the Dessert Man.”

“He spent his life looking over his shoulder, but he forgot to look both ways before crossing the street,” a police source told Fox. Friend and lawyer Matthew Mari told the Post, “He was a kind, gentle, soft-spoken, very quiet guy. Always trying to help people.”
