CITYWIDE — THE CITY’S UTILITY workers’ union, on Sunday, announced that a tentative consensus for a new four-year contract agreement had been reached between the union and Con Edison after intense negotiations, narrowly averting a potentially stressful planned strike during the ongoing heatwave. UWUA Local 1-2, which represents more than 8,000 utility workers in NYC, had announced the intention to strike beginning at midnight when the previous collective bargaining agreement expired if a deal wasn’t reached. The union said in a statement that Con Ed had offered increased wages, health benefits and “operational agreements.”

The union says it plans to hold a member vote on the ratification of the agreement after full details are released.
