CONEY ISLAND — THE F TRAIN’s planned summer weekend shutdown begins next Friday, reports amNY. MTA officials say that shutdowns between Church Avenue and Coney Island throughout July, August and September are necessary to upgrade 70-year-old signal systems, which are responsible for the line’s frequent delays. Replacing the ancient signals with a new, computerized system will allow the authority to run trains more frequently and at faster speeds. The G train is also set to be closed in sections for signal upgrades this summer.

F service will be suspended on the Culver Line between Fridays and Mondays, on July 5 to July 8, July 12 to July 15 and all weekends between Aug. 9 and Sept. 16, as well as on Labor Day weekend until Tuesday, Sept. 3.; shuttle buses are set to run between affected F stops on weekends.
