JAY ST./METROTECH STATION — A SOUTHBOUND R TRAIN IN DOWNTOWN BROOKYN’S JAY ST.-METROTECH station hit a straphanger, reports PATCH. The incident reportedly happened late Thursday morning, June 20, when another commuter accidentally pushed the person off the platform as the train entered the station. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, although the person’s condition has not yet been conveyed to the press as of Thursday. The incident and emergency team response caused the rerouting of southbound R trains onto the Q line between Canal Street and DeKalb Avenue, and commuters were advised to take northbound trains for service to or from bypassed R stations, which included City Hall, Cortlandt St/World Trade Center, Rector St., Whitehall St. and Court St.

According to MTA data provided to The City, there were 241 such collisions in 2023, and the number of trains making contact with people has surged nearly 30% since 2018.
