CITYWIDE — POLICE ON TUESDAY took a man into custody in the case of a sexual assault on a young girl in Queens’ Kissena Park, reports CBS News. During the shocking attack last week, two 13-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were menaced with a knife and tied up before the girl was raped by their assailant. Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, age 25, was detained in the early hours of Tuesday morning by Flushing community members, who recognized his face from surveillance footage shared during an extensive search effort and captured him in a deli before restraining him. Police say that Inga-Landi waived his Miranda rights, confessing to the crime, and now faces numerous charges, including rape, robbery and kidnapping.

The group who detained Inga-Landi say they were looking out for their community:I come and I just like grabbed him out the store because that situation got me mad like, you know? I got two little sisters. I’m about to have a daughter, you know? I couldn’t just, you know, walk away… After that, I ain’t gonna lie, everybody just started beating on him, resident Jeffrey Flores told CBS.
