Second Brooklyn Made store opens in central location Downtown

New store will feature 150 local makers, and continue to offer products representing the borough’s diversity

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — In real estate, they say it’s all about “location, location, location.” Already blessed with a good location, this new venture is Brooklyn-born, Brooklyn-branded and Brooklyn-loved.

The new business features 150 vendors, and like its original location, which opened in Industry City in May 2023, the City Point spot will feature products from local makers and entrepreneurs that represent the rich diversity of Brooklyn. The range of products includes international items from global artisans of some of the many countries the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce (BCC) has partnered with, including Brooklyn Loom in Pakistan, as well as distinctive goods sourced from El Salvador and Singapore.

“Our ability to make the Brooklyn Made stores a reality has truly become so rewarding. The makers that are a part of this store are everyday Brooklynites from all walks of life, all different ethnicities from all different neighborhoods,” said BCC President and CEO Randy Peers.

Peers continued, “This is really about how we can help existing makers from communities of color get their products wider exposure. They can continue to grow and promote their creativity. The Chamber is just the platform to achieve that goal.”

Several notable Brooklynites attended the event, including Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, New York City Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Kevin Kim and Wells Fargo Senior Vice President of Community Relations for the Northeast Region Krissy Moore.  

“Everyone seemed to be talking about Brooklyn Made, and when the time came for them to expand, there was no way that we would not support it,” said Moore.

Wells Fargo made a significant philanthropic investment of $250,000 in the new store.

“It’s important to Brooklyn and Brooklyn makers,” Moore said. “We are all about putting communities first, and small businesses are so important to what we do. They are the drivers of communities.” 

Kevin Kim, commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services, said that this second Brooklyn Made Store is “an inspiration and a role model” for other small businesses that might be thinking about opening.

“One of the ways to combat rising commercial rents is to have small business owners collaborate,” Kim explained. “Giving opportunities to entrepreneurs like this is a great thing. I’m incredibly thrilled to be here today participating in this opening.”

“This store exemplifies what it is to build equity,” Reynoso said. “What we are doing here is not letting big corporations dictate the outcomes of what Brooklyn is about.” 

Laurie Cumbo, commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, said she foresees even bigger and better things for Brooklyn Made.

“This is something that’s going to be a global phenomenon,” Cumbo noted. “There is a secret sauce to Brooklyn that we have, and everybody wants a part of it.”

The BCC is among the largest and most influential business advocacy organizations in New York, having spent the last hundred years developing and promoting policies that drive economic development and advance member interests.
