SUNSET PARK — “THE FUTURE OF OFFSHORE WIND in America is right here in Brooklyn,” Rep. Dan Goldman said at Monday’s historic groundbreaking of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Sunset Park. Goldman stood alongside Gov. Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams and  representatives of NYSERDA and Equinor as shovels hit the ground. The Terminal will be the largest offshore wind staging and maintenance port in the nation and connect offshore wind power to over 500,000 homes across New York City, Goldman said, calling the project “a testament to what we can achieve when government and industry come together to realize the future of American green energy.” Empire Wind 1 will be the first offshore wind project to plug directly into the New York City power grid.

Goldman, a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, pointed out the project “was made possible by investments and tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congressional Democrats and championed by President Biden in 2022.”
