CITYWIDE — THE NYC SCHOOLS’ SUMMER RISING program will receive $20 million as part of a restorative funds investment from the Adams administration, the mayor and other city officials announced on Tuesday, June 4. Summer Rising is the city’s summer program that connects more than 100,000 elementary and middle school students to fun, culturally relevant, hands-on creative experiences to strengthen their academic, social, and emotional skills. Friday sessions will be restored, with the school day extended from 4-6 p.m. for middle school students.

The Adams administration in January previously announced it would fund the program entirely with city dollars for the first time ever. Previously, exclusively temporary federal stimulus COVID-19 funds had been used to underwrite the program; those monies have expired.
