Montague Street celebrates Pride with rainbows and love

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Montague Street was literally covered in rainbows on Sunday as the street celebrated Pride Month with enchanting entertainment, activities for adults and kids, and free samples from local merchants.

The Open Streets event, sponsored by the Montague Street BID with partners Brooklyn Heights Association and NYC DOT, included the whimsical and entertaining (but serious!) musicians Buoy, Brooklyn’s opera-singing Mermaid, accompanied by piano-playing pirate Capt. Emma; Mister John’s Music Celebration of Queer Music; the Brooklyn Irish Dance Co. and more. The Renaissance Street Singers put on a performance in front of Key Food.

The steps to Le Meraviglie Art Studio were festooned with hundreds of colorful balloons making up a rainbow selfie station, and kids made the most of buckets of chalk and brushes supplied by Le Meraviglie to transform the boring old asphalt in front of the center into a rainbow-colored delight.

Kids could shake it all out at the HYPE Pride dance party and craft Pride bandanas at the Brooklyn Cat Cafe. For many adults, however, it was a perfect day to enjoy the (21-and-over) Montague Sip Spot.
