BENSONSHURST — A SPIKE IN VEHICLE COLLISIONS involving children and their caregivers has prompted City Councilmember Susan Zhuang to host a roundtable discussion on Thursday, May 30, with community leaders and officers from the NYPD precincts serving her district. Representatives and leadership from the 62nd, 66th, 68th and 72nd precincts will participate in the roundtable to halt the number of collisions with pedestrians, particularly those in which children have been killed or seriously injured, including more than a dozen since the start of 2024. As a mother of two young daughters, Councilmember Zhuang has rallied community leaders and the NYPD to join forces for an urgent discussion on child safety and the steps that can be taken to prevent any more loss of life. The roundtable will take place at Councilmember Zhuang’s district office at 6514 20th Ave., starting at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Councilmember Zhuang has also partnered with Henry Lin, owner of Happy Toys, to distribute 100 leashed backpacks to parents who attend the child safety roundtable and register online as part of her ongoing efforts to provide parents throughout the district with helpful safety resources and materials. Parents can register for the backpack giveaway online.
