BROOKLYN BRIDGE — AS PART OF WEAR ORANGE and National Gun Violence Awareness Day events, on Saturday, June 1, volunteers from the NYC Chapters of Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action and other anti-gun organizations will host a Wear Orange walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to honor the lives of those impacted by gun violence and encourage engagement in New York City and nationwide. This year’s theme is Take Action. Moms Demand Action wants Congress to implement the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to require more unlicensed gun sellers to become licensed firearms dealers and, in turn, conduct background checks.

Gun violence is the leading killer of children and teens in this country, according to Moms Demand Action. Marchers wear orange in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, who was shot and killed at the age of 15 in 2013. Orange is the color that Pendleton’s friends wore in her honor.
