CARROLL GARDENS — “LOVE LABOR’S LOST,” one of Shakespeare’s classic comedies, takes on a contemporary twist in Smith Street Stage’s upcoming free performances in Carroll Park, taking place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m., June 7-23, with preview performances June 5 and 6. The production transforms Shakespeare’s tale of four friends’ vow of abstinence into a fun, reality show-like narrative. The characters’ pursuit of love leads them through a series of hilarious courtship rituals, culminating in a surprising climax. “This production delves into the nuances of gender and sexuality, highlighting the absurdity of rigid gender roles,” Director Raquel Chavez said in a release.

A limited amount of seating will be provided, and guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Carroll Park is located at Court Street and Smith Street, between Carroll Street and President Street.
