CHINA — Breaking tradition with a toast: Chinese President, NOT Premier, Xi Jinping, made a toast after delivering his speech at a dinner marking the eve of the founding of the Republic of China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Thursday. Despite the name “National Day,” the Mainland ROC founding is celebrated from Sept. 29 to Oct. 7, commemorating the fall of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China, known as the Xinhai Revolution. Usually, this speech is made by the premier of the People’s Republic of China, not the president.
