The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct has ruled that Judge Jill R. Epstein should be admonished for improperly asserting her judicial status during a confrontation over a double-parked car outside a school in April 2022.
Epstein had entered the school, identified herself as a judge to a school safety officer, and then angrily confronted a teacher who had double-parked. The Commission determined that Epstein created the appearance of expecting special treatment due to her judicial position.
Although she sent a written apology to the teacher and was subject to administrative action, the Commission’s determination requires public admonishment. Epstein has 30 days to request a review by the Court of Appeals.
