Brooklyn sees a new class of court officers at Prospect Heights facility
The state-of-the-art training academy in Prospect Heights, saw an influx of 267 hopeful new recruits on their first day of basic training on Monday. This marks the beginning of a challenging yet rewarding journey as they aspire to become New York State Court Officers.
Named in honor of New York State Court Officers Capt. William Thompson, Sgt. Thomas Jurgens, and Sgt. Michael Wallace who tragically lost their lives on 9/11, the training facility stands as a constant reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and dedication required of those who choose this path.
Established in 2018 to replace a smaller Manhattan-based facility, the academy is a key institution in preparing roughly 4,000 court officers who serve across the state.
