Brooklyn man gets 19 years for slashing ex-girlfriend’s throat

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Thursday that Romeo Borneo, a 63-year-old man from Prospect Lefferts Gardens, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend, Erica Renaud, 47. Borneo pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month.
“With today’s sentence, the defendant has been held responsible for the vicious and deadly stabbing of an innocent woman and mother,” Gonzalez said. “Today’s lengthy prison sentence is a step toward justice for the victim’s family and friends.”
According to evidence presented in court, Borneo called the police on November 13, 2018, at approximately 5 a.m., claiming he had been injured during a fight with Renaud. When police and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Borneo with cut marks on his wrist. A search of the apartment revealed Renaud’s body hidden beneath a pile of blood-stained bedding and pillows on the living room floor, her throat slashed.
Investigators later discovered a broken knife with apparent blood stains in the garbage. The medical examiner determined that Renaud died from a wound to the neck, which caused fatal blood loss.
