PARK SLOPE-GOWANUS — The famous Metropolitan Museum of Art proved that fashion galas are good for fundraising. Arts Gowanus is following suit for its second year with what it calls the Patterns Gala. Instead of the marble steps of the Metropolitan Museum, the Patterns Gala will be providing the red carpet treatment at the historic Old Stone House on May 12.

This outdoor event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear the craziest patterns they can — there will be art, food, drink, live music, raffles, and more. Ticket price is $125.

The gala is critical for supporting Arts Gowanus’ advocacy and programming. Over the next few years, Arts Gowanus needs to dramatically grow its infrastructure before taking stewardship of 28,000-square feet of affordable studio space and a community center that the organization negotiated as part of the Gowanus rezoning plan.

Arts Gowanus will honor NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and the Land Use Division’s Julia Ehrman at this year’s gala. During the years-long rezoning process, Arts Gowanus and Brad Lander (then city councilmember) and Julia Ehrman (the Land Use and Budget Director at Brad Lander’s office) negotiated with several developers on the Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) to ensure an affordable and sustainable future for the Gowanus arts community.

The Patterns Gala will also feature an auction, with more than 50 amazing artworks from incredible local artists. The auction began online April 28 and ends at the Gala at 9 p.m.

Arts Gowanus is a community advocacy organization that works to ensure artist space is available and sustainable in the neighborhood’s long-term future.
