MIDWOOD — A former teacher’s assistant at Midwood High School, 30-year-old Brian Quinones, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually exploiting a child. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Hector Gonzalez in federal court in Brooklyn on Thursday. Quinones pleaded guilty to the charge in September 2022.

“The defendant’s sextortion of a minor is unconscionable, cruel, and deserving of the punishment he received today in order to protect our communities for the lifetime of harm he has inflicted on his victims,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said. “I urge parents and caregivers to have frank conversations with their children about the dangers of communicating online with strangers who can pretend to be anyone or anything while making inappropriate requests for photos and videos.”

As part of his sentence, Quinones will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. The defendant’s exploitation of a minor is described as “unconscionable, cruel, and deserving of the punishment he received today” by Breon Peace, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

From September 2019 to January 2020, Quinones engaged in the trading of videos and images depicting child pornography using an instant messaging mobile application with another individual who has also been charged with child pornography-related offenses.

After a court-authorized search of Quinones’s residence and the seizure of his electronic devices, FBI special agents discovered sexually explicit messages between Quinones and a minor male victim.

Quinones posed as a woman to lure the victim into creating and sending sexually explicit videos, and then threatened to post the victim’s material on the internet unless he agreed to make additional sexually explicit content. In one instance, Quinones discussed an extortion scheme with another user on his Twitter account, encouraging the user to “Threaten him to do more…I like making boys into slaves.”
