Brooklyn Bar CLE offered free ethics credit with Kaylin Whittingham

Keeping up on the latest regarding legal ethics via decisions and opinions can be tough, but the occasional updates to case law are imperative for an attorney to understand.

The Brooklyn Bar Association continued its efforts to keep members informed by bringing back Kaylin Whittingham, an expert on legal ethics and a frequent lecturer at the BBA.

Whittingham gave a one-hour lecture virtually via Zoom on Wednesday at 12 p.m. It was titled “2022 Year in Review: Noteworthy Ethics Decisions and Opinions.”

Best of all is that the CLE was worth one ethics credit and was free as it is part of the BBA’s Professional Management Series, which helps small firms and solo practitioners improve their business by offering free courses.

Throughout the year, the BBA will bring in various vendors and attorneys to speak with members with discussions on time tracking software, Microsoft Office 365, how to run a virtual law practice, and tips on securing a federal court pass.

Whittingham, a graduate of Northeastern School of Law, gave a 2021 update at the BBA a year ago. She is a NYS Commissioner on ethics and lobbying in government and a referee for the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. She also served as counsel at the Attorney Grievance Committee, First Judicial Department and runs her own firm, Whittingham Law, which focuses on legal ethics and professional responsibility.

Whittingham previously served as a staff attorney at the Mental Hygiene Legal Services in the First Department, was a judicial intern for Hon. Delores Sloviter, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and Hon. Milton Tingling, New York County Supreme Court. She started her legal career at the NYS Attorney General’s Office.

The program was organized by the BBA’s Membership Committee including co-chairs Pamela Walker and Anthony Vaughn.
