Speeding Brooklyn Tesla driver charged for killing 1, injuring 3
Allegedly drove at 100 mph, flipped car and crashed into building
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Wednesday that a Brooklyn man has been indicted for reckless manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, and related charges for killing an 18-year-old passenger and injuring three others when he allegedly drove a Tesla at a very high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a turn.
“This defendant’s alleged reckless driving caused the death of a young man whose entire life was ahead of him, and left others injured,” Gonzalez said. “My Office will continue to fully investigate cases of vehicular violence and prosecute drivers who break the law on our roadways and endanger our communities.”
The District Attorney identified the defendant as Jonathan Mikhaylov, 23, of Gravesend. He was arraigned on Wednesday before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Matthew Sciarrino on an indictment in which he is charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault, second- degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and speeding. Bail was set at $5,000 cash or $25,000 bond, and the defendant was ordered to return to court on January 19, 2023. He faces a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison if convicted of the top count.
