BAY RIDGE — If you live on Fort Hamilton Parkway and yours was one of the cars hit by tire-slashing vandals a couple of weeks ago, you’ll like this news: Police at the 68th Precinct have apprehended three suspects.

On March 11, police arrested three young men they said are responsible for a spree of tire slashings earlier this month on Fort Hamilton Parkway.

The suspects, who range in age from 17 to 21, were caught as they were attempting to vandalize a car parked on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 97th Street at approximately 1 a.m., police said.

A witness spotted the suspects in action and called 911, police said.

After police made the arrests, they discovered several other parked cars with slashed tires, as well as one vehicle with a smashed window.

Police said they believe the three suspects may have hit as many as nine cars along Fort Hamilton Parkway.

The suspects were charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief.

Following the arrests, state Sen. Marty Golden issued a statement praising the work of the 68th Precinct.

“The 68th Precinct continues to make sure that we live in one of the safest communities in the city of New York, and those who proudly wear the uniform deserve to be thanked for this arrest. I thank Capt. Richard DiBlasio and the 68th Precinct for getting these three individuals off the streets so as to hopefully bring an end to this recent series of tire slashings,” Golden stated. “We will not tolerate acts that impede upon our quality of life such as tire slashings. To find your car with damaged tires is not only a personal nuisance and financial expense, but it causes concern for all residents on the blocks where it is happening.”

Police are still investigating a series of tire slashings that took place on 73rd Street in Bay Ridge last month. The suspects arrested in the Fort Hamilton Parkway incidents do not appear to be connected to the earlier crime spree, police said.
