Heart Association recognizes Brooklyn’s NYC Hospitals for quality healthcare

Honored for practices treating heart attack, stroke, diabetes

NYC Health + Hospitals on Wednesday announced that all 11 of its hospitals — including three in Brooklyn —were recognized by the American Heart Association for commitment to quality care in heart failure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes and resuscitation. 

The three Brooklyn hospitals belonging to the municipal hospital group are Coney Island Hospital, Kings County Hospital in East Flatbush, and Woodhull Hospital in Bed-Stuy/Williamsburg. 

The Heart Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” and “Mission: Lifeline” awards recognize hospitals nationwide that adhere to science-based practices and provide the highest quality care.

NYC Health + Hospitals earned these recognitions by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure and stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and aggressive risk-reduction therapies.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island won the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus award as well as the Mission: Lifeline Bronze Receiving award. It was also on the Stroke Elite Honor Roll and the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. 

NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County won the Get With the Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Award, the Get With the Guidelines Resuscitation Gold Award and the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award. It also was on the HF (Heart Failure) Honor Roll, the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll and the Stroke Honor Roll. 

NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull won the Get With the Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Ward, the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award, and the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. 

Nearly half of all adults in the U.S. have experienced some form of  cardiovascular disease – including heart attack, stroke and heart failure.

“NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island is honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association for utilizing best practices in treating stroke, diabetes, and heart failure.
