BRAZIL — Seahorses: Biologist Gabriela Santos showed seahorses she collected from the water off Urca beach as part of the Rio de Janeiro seahorse project run by the Santa Ursula University, in Rio de Janeiro, on Monday. According to project leaders, there has been an increase in the seahorse population in recent years in Guanabara Bay since the 2014 nationwide ban of their capture and sale to aquarium hobbyists, despite them being sensitive to polluted water. The seahorses are returned to sea after a few weeks.

BANGLADESH — Floods: A house was marooned by flood waters in Sylhet, on Monday. Floods in Bangladesh continued to wreak havoc on Monday as authorities struggled to ferry drinking water and dry food to flood shelters across the country’s vast northern and northeastern regions.

SPAIN — Wildfire: Firefighters worked in front of flames during a wildfire in the Sierra de la Culebra in the Zamora Province on Saturday. Thousands of hectares of wooded hill land in northwestern Spain were burnt by a wildfire that forced the evacuation of hundreds of people from nearby villages. Officials said the blaze in the Sierra de Culebra mountain range started Wednesday during a dry electric storm.
