CHINA — Masked up: A resident wearing a mask looked out from his home on Thursday, in Shanghai. Traffic, pedestrians, and joggers reappeared on the streets of Shanghai on Wednesday as China’s largest city began returning to normalcy amid the easing of a strict two-month COVID-19 lockdown that has drawn unusual protests over its heavy-handed implementation.

UKRAINE — Evacuation: A patient was carried on a stretcher to board a medical evacuation train run by MSF (Doctors Without Borders) at the train station in Pokrovsk, on Sunday. The train was specially equipped and staffed with medical personnel, and ferried patients from overwhelmed hospitals near the front line to medical facilities in western Ukraine, far from the fighting.
