PHILIPPINES — Military exercise: US Marines took their positions during an annual US-Philippines joint military exercise titled Balikatan, Tagalog for “shoulder-to-shoulder,” on the beaches of Claveria, Cagayan province, on Thursday. US and Filipino marines sprang from amphibious vehicles and transported helicopters to defend an island from potential aggressors during a military exercise and show of American firepower staged on Thursday in the northern Philippines.

UNITED KINGDOM — Fall: On Thursday, a soldier of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment fell off a horse during practice to participate in the state ceremonial surrounding this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Hyde Park in London.
