While it was no surprise that the Brooklyn Democratic Party’s Executive Committee, comprised of borough district leaders/state committee members, endorsed Democratic officials running for statewide re-election, the fact that Brooklyn is the state’s most populous county gives these campaigns an added boost.

Not only does the Brooklyn Democratic organization represent the state’s most populous county, it’s one of the largest Democratic county organizations in the entire United States.

And the statewide officials who were endorsed, in statements, showed their gratitude not only to the county organization, but to its chair, Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn.

Elected officials who were endorsed included U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin, Attorney General Letitia James and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

When a local organization endorses a candidate, that organization’s membership often becomes active in gathering signatures for the candidate, distributing flyers, making phone calls to get people to the polls, and more.

“I’m proud and humbled to receive the unanimous support of the Brooklyn Democratic Party — my hometown organization,” said U. S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “I look forward to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Brooklyn Democrats to win this election so we can continue to implement progressive and impactful policies that reduce costs for everyday New Yorkers, address income inequality, fight climate change, protect our democracy, expand affordable housing and reduce health care costs.

“I look forward to working with Brooklyn Democratic Leader Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn to accomplish so much more for all the people of Brooklyn — and beyond,” he added.

“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of the Brooklyn Democratic Party whose support and grassroots organizing will be an integral part of our path to victory this year,” said Hochul. “As one of the nation’s largest Democratic organizations, I look forward to working together to mobilize voters in every corner of the borough and elect Democrats who share our values.”

“I am honored to have been unanimously endorsed by the Brooklyn Democratic Party for my campaign for attorney general,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “Over the past three years, I have fought tirelessly to use the law as a sword and shield to protect New Yorkers and advance our state. I look forward to continuing that work for the people of Brooklyn and for communities across New York.”

Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn added, “The numbers show that from the grassroots on up, Democrats are united in confidence for our leadership. New Yorkers like what they see under Governor Hochul’s administration, and Brooklyn is the epitome of Democratic leadership, with Senator Chuck Schumer and Tish James at the helm.”
