Police: Armed man fatally shot by officers after wild chase
A 65-year-old man was shot and killed by New York City police officers after he fled from a traffic stop, crashed his vehicle into a police car and then pointed a gun at the officers, police said.
The encounter started when a highway patrol officer pulled the man over for speeding on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn at about 4 p.m. Thursday, Chief of Department Rodney Harrison said at a news conference.
As the officer was approaching the man’s car, he sped off, Harrison said. The officer chased the fleeing driver and positioned her unmarked police car in front of his Jeep, Harrison said. The man then crashed into the officer’s car and drove off, Harrison said.
